title: "Crypto Traders Flock to Altcoins Amid Bitcoin Price Malaise"
---
With many crypto traders sitting on the sidelines and awaiting news from China, volumes for bitcoin, the market's most highly traded asset, have seen a decline.
Market participants traded 6,670 bitcoins through Bitfinex, one of the world's largest exchanges by volume, in the 24 hours through roughly 21:30 UTC today, more than 50% less than the daily average of 17,900 bitcoins over the last week.
Likewise, volume has declined at major Chinese exchanges Huobi, OKCoin and BTCC, all exchanges whose policies have been affected by directives from that country's central bank.
Against this backdrop, bitcoin's price has stabilized, fluctuating between a daily high of $1,011 reached at 01:15 UTC and a session low of $1,001.00 hit at 07:00 UTC, CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index (BPI).
The 14th February session provided a similar story, as bitcoin prices moved within a slightly larger range between $987.33 and $1,106.44, additional BPI figures reveal.
The rangebound trading that bitcoin has experienced may form part of a broader trend, according to Vinny Lingham, market analyst and CEO of identity startup Civic.
Lingham told CoinDesk:
"I expect bitcoin to consolidate around $1,000 for a while, maybe a month or even two."
While some might embrace such a period of lower volatility, this reduction in price movement also results in fewer opportunities for traders to profit from the cryptocurrency's price swings.
But while bitcoin's market has settled, many other cryptographic assets have received tailwinds from the development.
At the time of report, eight out of the top 10 cryptocurrencies on CoinMarketCap (listed in terms of market capitalization) were higher for the day, with monero and dash having experienced the most notable gains.
Monero, a token that powers a blockchain that leverages digital signatures to help preserve the privacy of its users, rose to $13.74 during the session, more than 5.6% higher than the currency's price of $13.01 at 12:04 UTC, CoinMarketCap figures reveal.
At the time of report, monero's token, XMR, was trading at $13.61, 4.6% higher for the session.
Data provided by cryptocurrency trading platform Whaleclub shows the benefit that this particular altcoin has derived as a result of traders' lack of interest in bitcoin.
"We've seen lower volume (both shorts and longs) in the past few days on BTC/USD, with traders moving on to other markets which offer greater volatility," Petar Zivkovski, COO for Whaleclub, told CoinDesk.
He singled out monero's XMR token in particular, indicating that "we see some volume flocking" to this privacy-oriented digital currency.
Dash, a digital currency that offers users privacy and instant transactions, also pushed higher in 15th February. The cryptocurrency climbed to $19.66 during the session, 8.6% higher than the currencys price of $18.10 at 12:04 UTC, according to CoinMarketCap.
At the time of report, dash had fallen to $19.23, representing a 6.2% increase for the day.
Tim Enneking, chairman of Crypto Asset Management, offered similar sentiment.
"We are also moving a bit of money into altcoins," he told CoinDesk.
His take is that this is just the latest example of traders investing in smaller digital currencies when bitcoin prices remain rangebound.

title: "Dash Rises Significantly Since January, Market Cap Nears $140m"
---
Privacy focused cryptocurrency Dash has experienced a very strong rally recently. From the last time we reported on it Dashs price has already increased about 20%, from under $16 to over $19.3. And in total, Dashs market capitalization has soared 70%, since the start of the year, nearing a record of $140 million.
To unlock the Asian market, register now to the iFX EXPO in Hong Kong.
The rally has been sustained by trading volumes at all time highs, with an average of over $2 million worth of Dash bought and sold every day, making Dash the sixth most traded cryptocurrency in the world.
The cryptocurrency has been adopted by two bitcoin hardware wallets recently, TREZOR and KeepKey, and Dash has also opened a new headquarters at Arizona State Universitys SkySong Innovation Center. However, most attributed to Dashs recent price and volume growth is its recent software launch of Sentinel, which sets the foundation for the its decentralized payments system Evolution.
We asked Ryan Taylor, Director of Finance at Dash, for his take on the matter.
To what do you attribute Dashs recent price rise?
Its very hard to pinpoint one reason for our recent price rise — just about everything is going right for Dash lately. We just deployed our first major release in 18 months and I dont believe it could have gone any smoother. We are also benefiting from the positive feedback loop of our rising price, which is enabling our budget system to fund larger integrations, hire more developers, and increase our presence at conferences.
I think the market is watching our project very closely, because we are the first to solve a wide swathe of the issues plaguing first generation cryptocurrencies like governance, funding, instant transactions, privacy, and improving the end user experience.
Do you see Dashs price rally continuing?
Ryan Taylor, Director of Finance, Dash
We believe this is just the beginning. As our price increases, our network generates even more investment dollars to direct towards the development of our ecosystem. Were able to actively build out our ecosystem of services in a way no other coin can.
As the utility of our ecosystem grows, it attracts new users and investors that further our growth. Our market cap has grown at a rate more than double that of Bitcoin and more than the entire altcoin market for each of the past three years. Were on pace to do that again in 2017. That long term trend should continue.
How is the Dash community receiving Sentinel (12.1)?
Most of the benefits of 12.1 are “under the hood” improvements required to support our flagship product Evolution, due out around the end of this year. Even so, our users seem to love the new version, which improves our privacy feature, carries lower fees, and provides easier access to information about the network.
From an end user perspective, Evolution will deliver an order of magnitude improvement in the user experience of cryptocurrency.

title: "Privacy Crypto DASH Surges 10% to All-Time High of $23.88"
---
Privacy-centric digital currency DASH - the sixth most valuable cryptocurrency in the world - rallied 10% today to an all-time high of $23.88. At approximately 11:40 EST on Sunday, the DASH/BTC exchange rate on U.S.-based exchange Poloniex hit a 176-day high of 0.0227.
The novel digital asset was in a downtrend during the second half of last year, hitting a low price of 0.01 on December 23, 2016. But several technical improvements, growing network security (hashrate/masternodes) and [rising adoption](http://www.razor-forex.com/2017/02/anonymity-focused-cryptocurrencies-dash.html) have propelled the value of DASH upward during the first 45+ days of 2017.
The market capitalization of the DASH network also hit an all-time high today: $168.74 million, according to [Coinmarketcap](http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dash/)
The hashrate of the DASH blockchain, which is secured by the X11 algorithm, has been steadily rising since July of 2016, growing to a record 2.6731 Th/s on January 24, 2017 (5x increase since July 4th).
![Alt desc](/assets/img/dash-hashrate-2.png)
Investor confidence in privacy-focused DASH has been bolstered by strong network growth metrics, however, investor interest soared after Czech-based Bitcoin ATM manufacturer, General Bytes, announced support for DASH on their BATMTwo and BATMThree ATM models on February 10th.
At present, there are 162 General Bytes ATMs installed in various countries. General Bytes teller machines currently make up 16.06 percent of all Bitcoin ATMs installed in the world, according to data by [CoinAtmRadar](https://coinatmradar.com/charts/#by-manufacturer).
While DASH is not supported by default on General Bytes ATMs, individual vendors can choose to support DASH via an upgrade from [CryptoDiggers Team](https://www.cryptodiggers.eu/), a European blockchain services firm.
Furthermore, General Bytes also launched a DASH [Thunderclap campaign](https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/52838-bring-dash-to-your-local-atm) on Twitter to get the word out about the ATM upgrade.
At press time, the DASH/BTC rate has retraced from its 176-day high of 0.0227 down to 0.0217:

title: "DASH Steams Ahead to All-Time Market Cap High - $23 Per Coin"
---
Privacy-focused altcoin DASH [rocketed](https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dash/) to a new all-time market cap high of $168.7 mln Sunday as its price cracked $23.
Continued enthusiasm behind the coin and in general altcoin trading has ensured the asset remains a firm favorite with an increasing number of speculative investors.
![Alt desc](/assets/img/e3e450144da803fbe6ba21c18e347e07.png)
The highs are a far cry from the DASH of even a year ago, which traded at just 0.08 BTC per coin.
A raft of integrations in the past weeks have additionally helped introduce the coin to a wider audience.
Most recently, Cointelegraph [reported](https://cointelegraph.com/news/dash-maidsafecoin-at-new-highs-on-wave-of-altcoin-optimism) its debut on exchange BitMEX to much fanfare, while European Bitcoin ATMs can now be retrofitted to also deal in DASH as well as Bitcoin.
The Slovakian crypto app developer CryptoDiggers is responsible for the upgrade, which can be made to BTMs operated by [General Bytes](https://www.generalbytes.com). Currently, the latter has around 16 percent of the global number of BTMs in existence.
“The first digital currency that can offer real electronic untraceable cash will be very successful. The Dash team is on the right path towards accomplishing this feat,” BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes commented last week.
