title: "What is Dash Evolution?"
---
When I learned about the upcoming Dash project called Evolution, I could clearly see the future of online banking.
This is a bold statement for sure, but after you learn about the specifics of this new application, I think youll also be rather surprised by its features. When I watched the preview video (shown below), I was instantly reminded of the look and feel of a Facebook-style PayPal interface combined with the security and privacy of blockchain technology. It was a moment that solidified my hunch that Dash is poised to become a very powerful contender in the digital currency space.
Since Evolution has not yet been released, (slated alpha release: late 2017), these preview images are just previews, not the real thing. But they will give you a good idea of whats coming.
Evolution is easy to use.
![Alt desc](/assets/img/evomedium1.png)
You can see from this visual that Dash takes simplicity and user-friendliness very seriously. It seems that Dash is one of the few digital currencies that actually cares about regular people. This Dashboard is easy to understand and very clean. The interface reminds me of PayPal and Facebook, if they merged together. But the interface is where the Facebook-PayPal similarities end. Dash is a decentralized digital currency which means it collects no data on its users. At its core, it is a peer-to-peer money system built on cryptography.
This looks like the future of online banking to me. And the best part is that no entity, no company, no third party is collecting your personal information in this scenario. This is huge. This is ground-breaking.
Evolution will be available on both smartphones and computers.
![Alt desc](/assets/img/evomedium2.png)
Anyone who has used digital currency is aware of the limitations of digital wallets. Most people have certain wallets on their computers, and different ones on their smartphones. Theres a frustrating lack of interoperability between operating systems and devices. In short, its overly complex and most people just dont want anything to do with it. Evolution will be available across different devices and will add a layer of simplicity thats currently lacking in other other digital currencies.
Evolution will have a friends list.
![Alt desc](/assets/img/evomedium3.png)
You will be able to send money to anyone in your contact list, which means the long alphanumeric complex addresses will become a back-end operation which you wont see. If you want to send money to your friend @Banksy, you simply select @Banksy from your contact list and send him the money. The specifics of this are not covered in this article, but Id like to find out more about the mechanics. What this means is that youll be able to finally send Dash to one of your friends who has zero knowledge of Bitcoin. This will truly be a game changer for regular people who dont want to learn the overly complex system of Bitcoin.
Evolution wont store anyones private keys.
![Alt desc](/assets/img/evomedium4.png)
The first concern I had when I found out about Evolution was security. How will Evolution be secure? It sounds very vulnerable to be available across many different devices. Amanda states that no Evolution provider will be storing anyones private keys. This means that your private keys will not be stored on any server or outside third party. You will be responsible for a seed recovery phrase, so you alone are responsible for securing it. A seed recovery phrase is a list of different words that are in a particular order. Heres an example of what the recovery seed could look like:
![Alt desc](/assets/img/evomedium5.png)
I learned that there will be different security levels for different users. Some people want an ultra-secure setup and some people prefer a looser system. Evolution aims to serve both types of people. Theres more details about this in the official Dash page, so if you want to learn more, check it out.
Evolution will have Dash Apps for stores and buyers.
![Alt desc](/assets/img/evomedium6.png)
This is a very exciting feature mainly because it removes the annoying chore of having to find stores that accept Dash as payment. Also, its a very exciting opportunity for merchants because if you have a store within Evolution, youre automatically connected to dedicated buyers. This is a huge opportunity for entrepreneurs. Im even considering open up a store called Dash 4 Dollz that my daughter and I have been thinking about launching. Evolution would make our entrepreneurial dreams seamless and fun. Evolution will also have a recurring payment option which means you can set up autopay for your bills. Theres a lot packed into this application, more than any other digital currency has ever created for regular users. It looks quite amazing.
To get a really good overview of Evolution, check out Amanda B. Johnsons Dash Detailed video:

title: "TENX DEBUTS NEW DASH DEBIT CARD"
---
TenX has released a new Dash debit card, adding to the increasing pool of options for users to live exclusively off of Dash.
Originally a Bitcoin debit card, TenX later added Ethereum, but pursued Dash recently under popular demand. According to Dr. Julian Hosp, co-founder and CVO, Dashs impressive growth and positive community prompted TenX to seek integrating it next:
“Our initial idea at TenX was to only integrate Bitcoin. Then we had an investor who specifically wanted to have Ethereum on. Dash came to our attention when it climbed into the Top10 crypto currencies almost a year ago. It was then that I joined the Dash community to find out what was behind that currency. I saw how strong and positive the community was and is and that inspired us to offer the proposal to integrate DASH as well. We are not planning on integrating any other currency any time soon.”
The first Dash debit card to allow balance to remain in Dash?
Unique about the TenX card in the whole field is its ability for the user to maintain a balance in cryptocurrency. This means that a user can keep their entire balance in Dash, and it will be exchanged only when swiped, much like Coinbases Shift card for Bitcoin. Hosp sees this, as well as virtually no fees, as a game-changer:
“The 3 biggest differences are the extremely low fees, the multi-currency option and the benefit of leaving your money in Dash. We only charge 1.5 USD for a virtual card and 15 USD for a physical card. After that there are no fees. No FX fees, no usage fees, etc. If you spend less than 250 USD per year, we charge 1.5 USD for the virtual and 3.5 USD for the physical card to stay active. No other provider to our knowledge can offer this structure. We also allow our users to spend their money through different cryptocurrencies and not only one. This ties in with the third benefit: We do NOT change your money into Fiat, like pretty much most other providers do. We leave it in crypto and it is up to the user to decide whether they prefer to leave it in Bitcoin, Dash or Ethereum or in all 3. From June onwards we will also offer the possibility to exchange the currencies within the app, without using any third party. This way it is instant and safe.”
Regrettably, while the card will initially be available only in Singapore, by the end of the year it should be global, including coveted US availability, according to Hosp:
“Since everything that we at TenX are doing is pretty new to them, our debit card provider asked us to roll everything out step by step, starting with Singapore first and going globally afterwards. I do not have an exact date for when it will be available in the US, but for sure in 2017.”
An increasingly crowded field of Dash debit cards
In a cryptocurrency field still dominated by major player Bitcoin, options to use other coins remain limited. However, in this regard Dash is “punching out of its weight class,” gaining more debit card integrations than any other coin except Ethereum. Cards such as ShakePay and SpectroCoin, early staples in the Dash card field, are now joined by an increasing number of options, including TenX and an offering by early Bitcoin pioneer Charlie Shrem.

image: "Ryan-Taylor-Dash-CEO-CypherPunk-world.jpg"
title: "A CEO IN A CYPHERPUNK WORLD: INTERVIEW WITH RYAN TAYLOR"
---
Formerly the Director of Finance for Dashs Core team, Ryan Taylor was recently promoted to CEO over Core, as founder Evan Duffield moved to an advisory role to serve as more of a visionary and less as a day-to-day boss. This prompted a bit of a culture clash reaction from parts of the cryptosphere, as while there are many CEOs of companies operating in cryptocurrency, few coins themselves have that title on their team.
Dash Force News spoke with Taylor about how his new role fits in with the cypherpunk world of digital blockchain technologies.
Dash Force News: After the initial announcement, some were under the impression that you were the new “CEO of Dash,” that youre in charge of the whole currency. Is that true?
Ryan Taylor: Given Dashs unique governance model, it is understandable that there was some confusion over the difference between the Dash network and the Dash Core Team, which happens to perform most of the networks development. Dash shatters existing paradigms of how organizations can be structured. We tried to articulate as clearly as possible in both the press release and the official announcement to the community that the appointment was internal to the Dash Core Team, and not the network as a whole. There are many different entities servicing the Dash networks needs, and the Dash Core Team is only one of them. Each of these entities will choose to organize themselves in a variety of ways. It will take ongoing education to ensure the public understands the difference between that Dash DAO, the network itself, and the Dash Core Team.
How was it like to transition from the world of your past career to be a big player in the cryptocurrency and blockchain realm? Any culture shock?
RT: I have been working closely with Evan since 2014, so Ive been a part of the Dash community for a long time, and Ive been involved throughout its expansion. As my excitement for the Dash project grew, I devoted more and more of my free time toward helping it succeed. By the time I made a commitment to full-time involvement, I was very familiar with the culture. Actually, there is an amazing cultural overlap between my previous employers and Dash. We are collaborative, fact-based, and carry incredible respect for each others ideas and values.
What is it like to operate under a DAO? Ever have any issues with the masternodes vetoing something or funding a different project that turns out to be a bad idea?
RT: The experience of working for the Dash DAO is never static. As the network grows and matures, the way we operate and interact with the Dash DAO continues to evolve. New ideas are constantly being tested, and new challenges arise as the scale of the budget continues to expand. Concepts like escrowing third-party funds on behalf of the network are relatively new, and emerged from past mistakes paying vendors directly. There have been a few frustrating proposal rejections along the way, but most of the time it stems from the team providing inadequate education and background to the masternodes, rather than an issue of poor masternode decisions. We are now very cognizant to provide enough information for the network to make an effective decision. For example, Daniel Diaz spent a great amount of time educating the masternode owners on the potential benefits of the BlockCypher integration. When properly educated, the masternodes tend to provide whatever resources we need to deliver the strategy.
Few people get paid in Bitcoin, let alone Dash, and even fewer get paid by Dash. How hard is it to fit a direct-from-blockchain career into the old financial world of mortgages, bills, and proof of income?
RT: Converting Dash to interact with traditional financial systems is getting much easier over time. With the services weve already integrated, that is no longer a challenge. Providing proof of income, though, can hamper some people from getting involved with the project full time. Families often have income-dependent needs ranging from obtaining a new mortgage to qualifying for their childrens student loans, and this usually requires a more traditional paycheck. In the near future, the Dash Core Team hopes to enable a more traditional employment arrangement for those who may need it. The network should acquire the best talent it can, regardless of a persons situation, and were working hard to make sure that happens.
In the cypherpunk world of open-source and peer-to-peer technologies where “centralized” is almost a slur, just hearing of someone with a “CEO” title can make the average crypto fan wary of the coin. Is there any validity behind this concern?
RT: Digital currency was made possible only through the power of decentralized technology, so I think there is a valid basis for expressing skepticism of centralized concepts arising within the industry. However, I think that we as an industry need to avoid pursuing decentralization for decentralizations sake. It is far better to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of centralization within different aspects of a project, and evaluating each on their own merits. There are benefits to efficiently organizing the human activity necessary to support a decentralized technology project like Dash. This ensures project contributors are working towards the same goals, and are aligned around a single vision. Whats important, though, is making sure that any centralized aspects are authorized through a decentralized approval process, and remain revocable by the network. This is what allows Dash to capture the best of what both decentralization and centralization have to offer.
Even so, Dash remains more decentralized than most organizations. The Dash DAO employs many teams that operate independently and serve its interests. No traditional organization is set up this way, so from an organizational standpoint, Dash remains a unique hybrid of different models, and draws on the best from each. It will be exciting to see how Dash continues to evolve.

title: "TECHNOLOGY CULTS - CAUSE CRYPTO DIVIDE INSTEAD OF HARMONY"
---
I have received death threats for reporting cryptocurrency news.
Ridiculous as that sounds, its true. The digital currency world can get quite competitive, and this includes all kinds of lies, misinformation, personal attacks, and DDoS attacks. Part of my job here at the Dash Force is to hold off some of these assaults, and believe me, Ive seen it all by now.
I came from the rough-and-tumble world of politics, where I wanted to make a difference. When I discovered Bitcoin and realized I could make an even greater difference without fighting all the time, I was ecstatic. Well, it turns out I celebrated a little too quickly. Theres a few key factors that make cryptocurrency a more divisive field than traditional tech and business.
Tech fanboys have always been with us
To a certain extent, the crypto wars are nothing special. There has always been disagreement between fanboys of different tech products, from the Apple vs. PC divide to iPhone and Android, Playstation/Nintendo/Xbox, console gaming vs. PC gaming, and so on. Boisterous fandom exists in vehicles, firearms, musical instruments, you name it.
Users, by definition, have money to lose
This is where cryptocurrency diverges from traditional tech. Its right there in the name: currency. Users have money at stake here. If you buy a different computer than everyone else, you arent speculating or investing. You get to just keep using your device until it gets old and breaks. Sure, if your choices as a consumer leave you isolated, you might not have access to the same tech support and upgrades, and in time you might need to switch product, but you havent lost anything.
With cryptocurrency, you buy and hope to use, but lets be honest, mostly just hold. You now have a financial attachment to how the market perceives your coin relative to others, meaning you have a short-term financial incentive to convince everyone how great it is and bash the competition. Although Ive written about the toxic Bitcoin community before, I really cant blame them: both sides have a lot of money to lose.
Network effects create zero-sum scramble
Beyond financial value, a couple extra factors raise the stakes in the cryptocurrency game. First, cryptos, by their decentralized nature, leverage network effects to work properly. The more people mining/running nodes/running masternodes/etc. there are, the smoother the network runs, and the more those running the network are incentivized to continue to do so. Every user lost to another community weakens the network.
Second, because of the currency aspect, cryptos seek to become a common medium exchange. While some wallets and point-of-sale systems allow for easy acceptance of multiple tokens, and many countries have more than one currency in common use, there does tend to be a struggle to be the one coin to rule them all. Cryptocurrencies in particular can be carbon-copies of each other with few changes, further restricting the number of coins in circulation that the market will find useful over time.
In the end, cooperation advances cryptocurrency, and humanity
Despite all these reasons people would want to fight over their preferred coins, however, in the end the greatest network effect is that of cryptocurrency as a whole. Bitcoin serves as a great standard from which all other coins learn. Litecoin may end up testing out SegWit before Bitcoin, giving its ancestor a taste of what to expect. Dash, Monero, and Zcash all have different approaches to privacy, and can learn from each other to keep their own game strong. Ethereum and Ethereum Classic both get to test diverging developmental paths.
While there might be some incentives to attacking the communities of other cryptocurrencies, the greatest advantage comes from mutual cooperation. Its still a very new field attempting to solve the greatest problems known to mankind, and theres still so much to learn.

title: "Dash Teams Up With Irish Blockchain Startup BitCart"
---
Dash is the pesky leak in the faucet that keeps drinking in the bathroom of Bitcoins house.
Its persistent, and demands to be heard. As the such, the alternative to Bitcoin has formed a union with Irish-based discount gift card platform BitCart to allow users access to significant online savings at Amazon, and soon, hotels.com.
BitCart offers nearly 20 percent discounts on Amazon for consumers using Dash on its platform. The integration comes on the heels of Dashs impressive Q1 rise, where its total market cap soared from $77 million to $528 million USD.
VP of Business Development Daniel Diaz said, “One of the most important things we need to do to help cryptocurrency adoption grow is to give potential users a strong reason to overcome the technical hurdles and start using digital currencies everyday. Offering a 20% discount on Amazon purchases is a powerful incentive for new users to try Dash out, learn about it, and most importantly, start realizing its benefits.”
The integration of Dash on BitCarts platform will be finished as of 6pm EDT today.
CEO of BitCart Graham de Barra said, “Dash is an obvious addition to our payment options due to its scalability. It is the superior cryptocurrency for payments over any other cryptocurrency. There is nothing more exciting for me than the decentralization of the global finance system, which is currently inefficient and riddled with fraud. Dash allows our merchant platform to completely eliminate the chance of chargebacks, and it opens up more options to anyone in the world.”
BitCart had its start back in 2015, and gives users a way to spend cryptocurrency on the worlds leading online retailer.
“This partnership marks Dashs first direct integration to a service of this kind, granting the project more independence. Dashs fast confirmations and cheap transactions ensure a superior user experience on BitCart using Dash because users dont have to bridge through other networks and wait long times for confirmation.” Diaz said.
“Customers can be from anywhere in the world, but currently most users are predominantly from the USA and Asia. With Bitcoin falling to 66% of the total market share, and Dash recently climbing to the fifth most valuable cryptocurrency, I have no doubt that our customer-base will increase with this implementation,” de Barra concluded.
