Privacy-focused altcoin Dash has announced a [three-year roadmap](https://www.dash.org/2017/06/27/roadmap.html) for its Evolution “decentralized payments platform.”
In a press release Tuesday, Dash, in a long-awaited announcement as to its future plans, confirmed the platform would be live in Alpha mode by December.
“Think of Evolution as online payments, a system similar to PayPal or Venmo, but completely decentralized, so that a user is always in control of his or her own money,” Dash Core CEO Ryan Taylor explained.
“Moreover, Evolution will be incredibly inexpensive, with no cross-border fees or restrictions.”
Dashs aim is to create a universal payments mechanism involving physical merchants, online point-of-sale and user-to-user transfers.
The project has seen huge investment, buoyed by the continued high trading price of the DASH token since the start of the year.
“Evolution is a massive endeavor with gigantic promises, but we will accomplish our goals through the help of an All-Star team of dozens of the worlds best programmers, researchers, project managers, technologists and user experience experts,” Taylor added.
With the full release slated for June 2018 meanwhile, further milestones on the horizon include hardware integrations to scale up the size of the Dash network drastically.

title: "Top 3 Upcoming DASH Developmental Changes"
original-author: JP Buntinx
original-link: https://themerkle.com/top-3-upcoming-dash-developmental-changes/
---
Cryptocurrency developers are always hard at work to bring new features to the community. It has been a while since we last looked at what is on the agenda for DASH enthusiasts. The year 2017 will introduce some more changes, all of which are quite interesting. The following three development changes will be quite interesting for DASH users.
3. DASHCORE 12.3
The primary software branch of DASH development will get a major upgrade in December of 2017. It is evident the developers have been working on a lot of different projects, most of which will culminate in the DashCore 12.3 release. First and foremost, there is the introduction of HD wallets, which is quite a significant development. However, that alone will not put DASH on the map. Other features include API & SDK testing, as well as multi-stage escrow transactions.
However, the features most people will be looking forward to is the merchant and app testing, as well as integration partner testing. Ensuring DASH can make inroads among merchants and applications out there is quite significant. It remains to be seen how successful this venture will be in the long run, but it is good to see developers try to shape the future of DASH as we speak.
2. DASHPAY WALLET ALPHA
Most DASH enthusiasts are well aware of how the developers are working on their version of the CoPay wallet, which has become quite popular among Bitcoin users. DashPay, as this new wallet will be called, will feature very similar features. Additionally, it will also introduce some features to be used by the DashPay Evolution wallet later on. It is a big step forward for DashPay, that much is evident.
The DashPay Wallet alpha testing will also introduce some network changes. There will be a 2MB block size increase for DASH, which is never a bad thing. Moreover, the team is contemplating whether or not a future upgrade to 5MB may be needed. All of this research documentation will be presented around the same time DashPay alpha launches, which is scheduled to take place in September of 2017. Scaling discussions go well beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum, that much is evident.
1. DASHPAY EVOLUTION WALLET
There are two different stages to the release of the DashPay Evolution Wallet. A testnet release is scheduled for November of 2017, which will allow users to sign up and also introduce the friending process. During the testnet phase, users can also access basic support for purchase agreements and the Evolution Account Management feature. This will give the DASH developers some valuable feedback as to whether or not any major changes need to be made.
This testing phase is scheduled to run until February of 2018, although that particular timeline can be moved up if needed. It will also be a great day for DASH since the friending process and Evolution Account Management will be made available to all users on the network. It is quite an interesting concept, to say the least. Having two separate wallets “compete” with one another over the coming months will yield some interesting results, that much is certain.

title: "Bitcoiner Charlie Shrem is Working on a Prepaid Dash Debit Card"
original-author: Benjamin Vitáris
original-link: https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/convicted-bitinstant-founder-to-create-prepaid-dash-debit-card/
---
Charlie Shrem was among the first who started to turn more focus on bitcoin when he founded BitInstant in 2011. Since the entrepreneur was doing business while a bitcoin was only worth a few dollars, not $2,600, his firm became on of the biggest on the market. According to Fortunes profile, Shrem handled approximately one-third of all bitcoin transactions at a time.
“You talk to 10 people,” Shrem told Fortune. “I guarantee you at least seven of them will say they got their first bitcoin from BitInstant.”
However, Shrem became involved in crime. His business shut down in 2013 with him arrested in January 2014 on his way back from a speech in Amsterdam. The founder of BitInstant plead guilty to aiding and abetting an unlicensed money transmitter, and was sentenced to two years in prison. According to the court records, Shrem also indirectly helped the infamous dark net marketplace Silk Road to send $1 million in bitcoin. For that, U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan ordered him to forfeit $950,000 to the state. Judge Rakoff said during the sentencing hearing:
[Shrem] was knowingly, willfully, and to some extent excitedly, even passionately involved in activity that he knew was a serious violation of the law and that was promoting the evil business of trafficking in drugs.
However, Shrem did not have to serve the two years in prison. After a little more than one year, he was released from the Institute in July 2016. Now, in the Fortune profile, Shrem said he is back into the cryptocurrency industry, and he seeks to help its infrastructure. The author of the article wrote that the BitInstant founder “claims hes no longer operating mainly for himself and instead wants to use his talents to strengthen the crypto-community.”
Shrem aims his focus on a project, which would allow Dash users to pay conveniently with the cryptocurrency. Shrem announced that he is working on creating a prepaid debit card onto which users can load Dash. The digital currency then will be converted into fiat currency to be used at any business accepting debit cards. If he succeeds, Shrems debit card will be first, which could be used in the United States.
Shrem also joined the startup Jaxx, who offers users a multi-platform wallet. Jaxx added Dash in August 2016 to the other cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, ether and DAO. The wallet also supports 23 fiat currencies. Anthony Di Iorio, the founder of the company who also co-founded Ethereum, said the firms goal with Jaxx is to create an interface to blockchain for the masses similar to the task of internet browsers. Shrem told Fortune, if he can help build Jaxx, hell “be a major industry player again.”

Dash Evolution has been designed as a scalable and user-friendly currency platform for mass adoption. Evan Duffield and Andy Freer of Dash Labs and Dash Core CTO, respectively have developed a roadmap for reaching this goal, and have provided a summary of this roadmap on Dash.org.
The user capacity will increase with each development stage. Dash plans to double the number of developers with each release.
Dash is one of the fastest growing cryptocurrencies, having surpassed $1 billion in market capitalization in recent months. As of Thursday, Dash was the seventh largest crypto with a $1.345 billion market cap, according to coinmarketcap.com.
The developers will use each incremental release as a framework for more development. There are various new technologies needed to create such an experience, all of which will strengthen the infrastructure supporting the network to ensure it can handle the transaction loads and data storage needs of a mass market.
Masternodes will be tested using “state transitions.” The system will give a mathematically predictable way to determine the quality of masternode service. Masternodes falling below a threshold of activity will be removed from the masternode list under a new system called “masternode blocks.”
New Software To Deploy
A software called IPFS will deploy DashDrive. IPFS is a P2P file system that can handle most network sharing, syncing and redundancy operations. DashDrive is an internal facing system that holds user objects within the network. There is no public facing system for storage of non-Dash information.
Network operations will scale in a way that will allow exponential growth. Masternode hardware requirements will increase to serve more users with greater functionality.
The network will eventually finance the creation of masternode specific hardware which will increase the throughput significantly.
Dash 12.1 Complete
Core developers have focused on deploying Dash 12.1, which links existing Dash codebase with future Evolution releases.
The team will soon open a large amount of private documentation to ensure complete transparency.
Dash has also created a new team based in Hong Kong called Dash Labs to focus on developing custom hardware under Duffield and Freer. Dash Labs will create the first open-source versions of different hardware types. The goal is to keep digital currency transparent while minimizing the economic advantages of closed-source, proprietary technology.
Advanced, open-source ASICs would remove most advantages of privately developed ASICs. Mining centralization could be reduced as a result.
